Introducing the Gilgamesh Story—12 paintings by Charles Sucsan.
I have just completed the supreme work of my 45-year career—12 large oil paintings illustrating the Gilgamesh mythic story. This is the tale of the King of Uruk in 2,500 BC, in Mesopotamia, now Iraq. My inspiration came when, in 1996, I discovered the original text (translated from the cuneiform.) This prized document told the story of the dawn of mankind’s history.
In my long career as a visual artist, my work has been shown throughout the world, mostly in solo and group exhibitions, and is now part of important collections of many art connoisseurs. Nevertheless, I always pursued the objective of creating one major “museum” oeuvre. I decided to use my own unique style (I call it “stick style”.) The images inspired by the story allowed me to integrate several other art concepts in synthesis with my own. While being anecdotal illustrations of this magnificent story, these 12 paintings also showcase the uniqueness of my personal technique and style; they truly are is an Historic marker in the development of art.
Presently I am looking for the perfect exhibition space to present this outstanding series. The size and quality of the paintings require an excellent and spacious environment that mostly art related institutions can provide. The search for it may take some time and any propositions or recommendations are welcomed.
Meanwhile, in a way, paintings of The Gilgamesh Legend, by Charles Sucsan are online.
The original paintings can be seen at my studio in Longueuil, Quebec, by appointment. Under certain conditions they could be transported to a designated place for closer inspection.
The paintings are available for sale or presentation by any artistic institution or public or private collection throughout the world. Any suggestions or proposals for exhibitions would be welcomed.
